In order to prepare for the nature of direct outreach in a postmodern culture, our team read the book "How Should We Live Then" by Colson & Pearcy. It's an excellent read for an introduction to worldviews, their effects and their results.
Some of the most influential books on the subject of postmodernism would be by Francis A. Schaeffer, including "The God Who Is There," "Escape From Reason," & "How Should We Then Live" (which obviously influenced Colson). First and foremost, this trip is 17 days long and for many team members it's the longest they've been away from home. We'd love to hear from you, so feel free to check back often and comment by clicking on the spaces beneath each entry!
Secondly, pray for the team members and those they'll come in contact with. This ministry is entirely relational...and each day we'll simply be waking up and trying to find someone to share the Gospel with. We'd truly appreciate your thoughts and prayers!

"shout to the Lord, all the earth let us sing, power and majesty, praise to the King"
i thought today was lousy. i was tired. i was fed up. i was frustrated. i had started off with energy...joyful, lighthearted somewhat...but the heat got to me, and i got discouraged just by all the events of the day. passing out flyers...a lot of people who don't smile back...a lot of doors that say "NEE" twice in big letters on them, meaning basically we can't put our flyers there...i felt very small and unloved. so i'd been walking for an hour or two after a break for lunch, and i put another paper in another door--then i decide to see if there are more houses around this corner to the left. i turned down it...and it wasn't more houses. there stood a magnificent, huge willow tree in the middle of a circular sitting area, on the edge of a wide canal that all the apartments backed up to. all the people had their little boats tied off, and there were flowers everywhere, and steps leading down to the water. i was absolutely stunned to silence. i almost cried, then ran up and sat down and just prayed. God is so amazing! what peace and joy and hope He can give with just a little picture of the beauty He is capable of. it was just like He was saying, "hey, Kayla, remember I love you and the work you are doing here is for Me." gave me a little perspective. yeah. okay, so....I LOVE GOD!!! pray that He will continue to reveal Himself to me as this trip continues...i can't wait to see in what ways He does that. yay.
