In order to prepare for the nature of direct outreach in a postmodern culture, our team read the book "How Should We Live Then" by Colson & Pearcy. It's an excellent read for an introduction to worldviews, their effects and their results.

Some of the most influential books on the subject of postmodernism would be by Francis A. Schaeffer, including "The God Who Is There," "Escape From Reason," & "How Should We Then Live" (which obviously influenced Colson). If you're interested in some basic quotes on postmodernism, you can get them here:

  • 2003: Brent McKinney, Rob Edwards, Deb Stevenson, Jess Semmelbeck, Liz Stevenson, Alicia Garcia, Jude Miniat, Christy Thrasher, Abby Lorenc, Cristina MacGilvra, Matt Eaton, Justin Bascue, Faith Oldenburg, Kayti Edwards, Kim Church.

2006: Brent McKinney, Steve Davis, Debbie Schmidt, Michelle Davis, Thomas Egbert, Schuyler Crabtree, Kayla Russell, Alex Ehrich, Keila Lorenc, Bailey Price, Olivia Schmidt, Maria MacGilvra, Alicia Garcia

First and foremost, this trip is 17 days long and for many team members it's the longest they've been away from home. We'd love to hear from you, so feel free to check back often and comment by clicking on the spaces beneath each entry!

Secondly, pray for the team members and those they'll come in contact with. This ministry is entirely relational...and each day we'll simply be waking up and trying to find someone to share the Gospel with. We'd truly appreciate your thoughts and prayers!

Finally, when this team left, we were short of our financial goals. If you're so inclined to donate, simply go to the church website and click on "contact us," send an e-mail saying you'd like to contribute, and you'll be given the necessary instructions.

SO let me tell you what yesterday was like. As normal I woke up early and went to church to help with sound and setting up the chairs. It was so good to see the older members of the congregation again. They smiled seeing me! I felt overwhelmed.

There is this one man in the congregation who used to call others over to translate for him just so we could speak. His name is Fred and he also plays drums for the church. He walked over to me saying "Hi, how's it going?" at the same time I said "Hoi, hoe gaat't" He looked at me and said Ãyouu are speaking Dutch!" to while I responded.."änd you are speakinEnglishsh!" I thought it was quithumorousus.Johannan made the team stand up one by one to say their names but he didn't even give me that chance to as it left his lips beforI i could even start to get up. It felt good to be back. In fact it felt so good in the last worship seI i felt something a little wet sliding down my cheeI i wasn't expecting. After churcI i talked with anyone and everyonI i could find. From Robyn Eubanks and Cindi Labutta to Jan William and Kai and Bianca and Anna. There is never enough time to catch up! Jotam even came by church! He is currently living in the housI i used to live in so yesterday I went to go see it. There arnowoe GOATS in the front yard!!! I had to laugh at that!

A few of us decided to go to the beach yesterday and it was nice. I think it was a good cultural experience for them. The bad part is Schuyler's bike has been having problems so it broke down again and George (a pretty large Dutch man) rode on the back of my bike for the hour ride bike! Needless to saI i was exhausted afterwards.

But probaby one of the coolest things from yesterday which was not expected is Jean's girlfriend (eline) brought this guy named Jakob (Jacob). He is not a Christian but when I was at youth contact we close with an open time of prayer and he prayed! He prayed so honestly about his uncertainty of what Guido's lesson said and from his heart. I don't have his number buI i am trying to get it or he at least said he is coming to the car wash thiSaturdayay and to youth contact wheI i lead next week. He also confirmed whaI i will be teaching partiallyly based on Mark 5:36 saying "Don't be afraid, just believe."

Today is filled with more bike repairs for me as well as a trip to the beach with a lot of youth contact members later on. We'll see what else God has in store!
May He continue to bless you to be a blessing.
